Australian Test Legend Doug Walters confirmed

Australian Test legend Doug Walters has confirmed his participation in the HKICF 2005, to be held in Hong Kong over the weekend of 11-13 November.

Walters, who played 74 Tests averaging 48.26 for Australia and three times scored Test centuries in a session, said, “I’m really looking forward to the Hong Kong Festival. With 30 plus teams from around the world playing it should be a great weekend both on and off the pitch!” Read more...

Record Entry Expected

With the success of the award-winning 2004 Hong Kong Festival to build on, it is expected that a record number of 35 cricket teams (men and women) from the Asia region and worldwide will fly to Hong Kong and join local teams to compete in the 2005 Hong Kong Festival, making it one of the biggest club Sixes tournaments in the world.

The introduction of the Women’s Division last year was a great success and plans to increase the number of women’s cricket teams participating in 2005, particularly from overseas, are well in hand.

Estimates at this stage are for approximately 300 players to compete in the tournament, plus spectators.

The Festival will again be played at Hong Kong’s newest cricket ground at Po Kong Village Road, Diamond Hill, Kowloon. The ground is also the biggest cricket ground in Hong Kong and features two full-size cricket pitches, both of which will be played on simultaneously during the Festival to create a unique cricketing experience.

Organisers have big plans this year to boost the number of spectators and public attending the Festival with the creation of a unique “Cricket Festival Village” at the venue featuring a multitude of attractions designed to encourage spectator attendance and a special family atmosphere for all to enjoy.

In addition to the three days of cricket competition there are also two official social functions for players, officials and friends: The Welcome Party and the Awards Presentation Dinner.
